The Body Snatcher by E. E. Nalley

Joe and Cat in the Hack both seem to be trying to do the best they can in a rather distopian society. I have this suspicion that Cat has a few skeletons running around, but she seems to be trying to do the right thing in her own batman kind of way.

My take on the backstory is that Lexi could have been an employee of Big Daddy prior to her transformation. A businessman of his qualities has ample employment for people possessing her skillset. One possibility is she got seriously injured on the job, and the brain transplant was her reward for her loyal service. A contrary possibility is that she made his shit list, and the transformation was her punishment. Either way, I wonder how many vat bodies he has/had waiting in the wings for whatever eventuality.

Speaking of bodies waiting in the wings. I'm not completely convinced that Big Daddy has made his big exit. If he does have vat bodies waiting in the wings and sufficently loyal minions, he might just live to see another day in one of those vat bodies. Though karma would give him a midnight lady chip of his (or her) own.
