We won't punish anyone for making a comment, but we would prefer to avoid massive arguments and trolling is frowned on. There are plenty of other places to go for that... and it is not conducive to this community for us to put up with it. If a moderator / staff / canon author says stop, please do. If we have to ask you multiple times, we may ban you. The community / project is more important than any one person's 'free choice' chasing people away. Disagree? Think we treated you unfairly? Calm down. Come back and talk to us rationally. We aren't monsters. But the site isn't a democracy... and making people leave because you make it less fun to be here? Not acceptable.

Yah know I never actually looked at the first post of the old thread.

Does one not have a right to sound exasperated when when asking for something to be passed at the dinner table when the person who should have passed it to you already hasn't (several times!) and is digging into their own plate?

If you've already asked for it to be passed and they didn't, then yes, total right to sound exasperated. If you only mean that they should have known to pass it without being asked because of common sense, etiquette, manners, or what have you, then possibly not. Everybody always thinks their particular brand of manners is "just common sense" but in my experience manners and etiquette are one of the most common areas you encounter alien and arbitrary value systems. Straight up orange and blue morality bullshit. So unless you've already gone through this with them in the past enough times that they should remember by now, I'd say err on the side of being patient because maybe they just measure the world along a different axis than you do.
