So the story starts with a cancer striken orphan. Not a bad start, because it helps establish both grief and loneliness, while also giving her a 'fresh start' once she gets her feet under her. The cancer really sucks, being 10 years old and terminal, until 14 where you go into palliative care. The doctors and social workers don't seem to care about her either.

Then she runs away. I can't blame her, because I think a lot of people would live out their fantasies in the woods or whatever. I found it fairly hard to believe she was able to hike in the woods without medications, without her body giving out or anything. and it wasn't the most clear until later in the story, but apparently she spent months in the woods, not just a few days/weeks. How did she not die immediately from cancer? I don't think she had the inaba spirit until the summer.

With that said, I really liked Inaba's introduction and explaining how avatars and hollows work. she seems really sweet and maternal.

I liked the scene at the hospital. her getting used to her body and new lease on life. I am not the biggest fan of '14 year old appears to be an adult' but it isn't the worst trope, and it makes sense in story. I think her extreme bisexual awakening works. like a sick teenager is more concerned with living and hormones. But once she actually has time and energy, she can realize what she actually likes. Granted, she kind of gets hit in the face with hormones but that makes sense.

I liked the story with the mississippi river spirit. kinda a brutal reminder that mages can be just as evil and scary as anyone else

I like that she is learning to sew. she seems fairly skilled for a beginner. Also i like that she is able to have enhanced memory while still struggling with numbers. As an ADHD accountant, I am basically the oposite.

She has a lot of self hatred, which makes sense. She never really had a family to support her, and everyone focused on her physical health without seemingly caring about her mental health. terminal kids have it rough, and I can't imagine many people picture them surviving or what the longterm mental health effects would be.

I like the dream space, astral journey. Avatars and hollows are some of the coolest concepts in Whatley.

The MID exam was fairly uneventful. She seems fairly physically good. like she is flexible and fast, and has good senses. sucks that she is really scared of needles and blades, but I understand

To be honest, the scene with steve was fairly fucked up. like it wasn't that clear that he was coercing her mentally but makes sense. The adults around her should have protected her better. I hate that Rose thinks that it is her fault this happened. but at least she had carribou try to help her after the fact. I have more thoughts about this but I am running out of time and I don't think the forum lets you save a post and come back to it

- Her cancer was spreading, and the doctors had given up, but she wasn't physically at the end. She did have enough energy to do the basic things she had to survive. But She probably did have to take long rests and many naps.

-Her manifestation was very chaotic, what with the spirit trying to hold the physical effects back while boosting her healing and regen.

-She is modeled very loosely on me, with some exaggeration to the Hypersexuality disorder, and her Discalculia. Mine aren't as severe in either issue, but they are both something I have to deal with.

To be honest, the scene with steve was fairly fucked up. like it wasn't that clear that he was coercing her mentally but makes sense. The adults around her should have protected her better.

- Steve was very good at covering what a manipulative, evil asshole he was. He played the part of the good boy that wants to be a hero, when in reality he was pond scum. But nobody saw it. And yes, it was sad that Rose was manipulated, and her HSD compounded the issue, making her enjoy it and want more, while simultaneously feeling repulsed and abused. She will be getting help with thatmore when she reaches the school. .
